"The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it" (Psalm 68:11).
The Bible says: "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" (2 Timothy 2:15). This Advent Bible Companion should aid your study of the Bible. You will need your Bible at hand to make the best use of this Companion. This companion is not an exhaustive study, but provides the foundation for further studies. When studying the Bible, consider the rule set out in Isaiah 28:10: "For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little."...
Diseases of every stripe and type have been brought upon human beings by the use of alcohol, coffee, tea, and tobacco. Alcohol related diseases range from liver disease to ulcers to dementia. Prevention by abstaining is better than cure. These hurtful indulgences must be given up, not only one but all; for all are hurtful, and ruinous to the physical, mental, and moral powers, and should be discontinued from a health standpoint. Scientific evidence against their use is everywhere and overwhelming and needless be rehearsed...
The main characteristic of the antichrist is the subtle denial that Jesus Christ is the begotten Son of the living God. The beloved John wrote: "Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: but he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the father also" (1 John 2:22-23)....
"Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? ... who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?" (Proverbs 30:4). Christ "saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God" (Matthew 16:15-16). Is Christ the literal begotten or symbolic (figurative, pretending, role playing) Son of the living God?...
Christ's discourse in John 14-16 is many times misunderstood, particularly what He said about the Holy Spirit. Christ told His disciples that His Father will send them "another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever" (14:16), then He told them, "A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father" (16:16). Why did He say those words if He was going to send someone else?...
Christ came to restore life, and it is Christ's remedies alone that will give true healing to the sick, for "Christ's remedies cleanse the system" - Ellen G White {14LtMs, MS 65, 1899}. The old epitah, "I was well; I wanted to be better, I took physic, and died" (Benjamin Franklin), can never be written by the well person who by faith uses Christ's remedies, in order to get bettter; for Christ Himself...
Christmas is wholly pagan in its origin, and it has no sacredness whatsoever. It was not till some hundreds of years after Christ’s birth that people thought of observing a day in memory of it, and it was some time later before they agreed as to what day they should take. To keep it as a sacred day, therefore, is as much a sin as to disregard a day which is sacred...
There are men who seem committed to denounce the Seventh-day Adventist Church as Babylon - the Lord says, "I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran" (Jeremiah 23:21); they forget that the Seventh-day Adventist Church is the church militant. "The church militant is not the church triumphant, and earth is not heaven. The church is composed of erring, imperfect men and women, who are but learners in the school of Christ, to be trained, disciplined, educated...
Bible prophecy helps us understand climate change as the precursor to Sunday law. That climate crisis will lead to Sunday law, was predicted: "Men in responsible positions ... will urge upon the people the observance of the first day of the week, ... they will point to calamities on land and sea - to the storms of wind, the floods, the earthquakes, the destruction by fire - as judgments indicating God's displeasure because Sunday is not sacredly observed...
God has not revealed to us the dates when probation will close, but His warnings are clear. To the antediluvians He warned: "My Spirit shall not always strive with man" (Genesis 6:3). To ancient Israel He said: "thou art gone backward: therefore will I stretch out my hand against thee, and destroy thee; I am weary with repenting" (Jeremiah 15:6). To us today He says: "Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is" (Mark 13:33). But you may ask...
Worship should be permeated by a sense of reverence and awe for God, an attitude that will give us the humility and surrender so needed for true worship. We are also told to 'give glory to Him' [Revelation 14:6-7]. What is crucial here is that worship be about God and not about ourselves. We have to make sure that worship is not people-centered, culture-centered, or personal-needs-centered, but God-centered. We worship God...
Country Living for Adventists is a response to the question asked by fellow Adventists as to when is the time to leave the cities. There is a compilation of Ellen White writings on the subject in a booklet called Country Living published by our Seventh-day Adventist Church in 1946 - in order not to confuse this with that booklet, herein the title Country Living for Adventists is adopted. Has it long been time to leave the cities and will it be too late at Sunday Law? ....
This booklet is commentary on Daniel chapter 7. As chapter 7 begins, Daniel sees four beasts coming up out of the sea, and one of the beasts had horns out of which emerged a little horn. In prophecy, what does a beast represent? What does the epresent? What does horns represent? The prophecy gives us characteristics of the little horn so we can be certain of his identity. The prophecy clearly and unmistakably identifies the little horn as the papacy ....
The prophecy of Daniel 11 is a montage of earthly events that would have made headline news at the time it was fulfilled in history. It is like heaven compiled newsworthy events from the time of Daniel until the close of probation so that we could "catch the steady tread of the events ordained by Him to take place" {Review & Herald, 20 October 1904, par 8}. Up until verse 44 can only be understood by comparing earthly newsworthy events recorded in history with the words of this prophecy. Verse 45 is to be understood the same way comparing headline earthly news with the words of this prophecy. The close of probation will not come as a thief to those who are watching and this is what this prophecy is all about. ....
While we are still living, we must do well, to render our love to God and fellow men, for there is no opportunity in death. "For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not anything, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in anything that is done under the sun" (Ecclesiastes 9:6,7). Therefore, you who are living and know you will die, "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do...
This booklet takes from selected writings of Seventh-day Adventist pioneers to present the picture of the final events culminating with Christ's advent. "The calamities by land and sea, the unsettled state of society, the alarms of war, are portentous. They forecast approaching events of the greatest magnitude. The agencies of evil are combining their forces and consolidating. They are strengthening for the last great crisis. Great changes are soon to take place in our world, and the final movements will be rapid ones"...
God is as truly the author of health laws as He is author of the moral law. His law is written with His own finger upon every nerve and muscle that has been entrusted to man. Multitudes are living in transgression of God's law, and now He in mercy calls them to obey its sacred precepts. This booklet is about knowing the only true God, the only begotten Son of God, the moral and health laws of God, and how we may keep the laws of God by the indwelling Spirit of His Son...
This appeals to fellow Adventists to repent of the greater abominations done among us. At the same time it affirms that the Adventist Church, enfeebled and defective as it may be, is still the only true Church. It calls us to recognise the application of Ezekiel chapters eight and nine to the Church at the present time. A seal of God is being placed upon the foreheads of those only who sigh and cry for the abominations. But to sigh and cry for the abominations, we must know and understand them...
That breach of earthly laws - criminal or civil laws - attracts consequences, should signal to us that breach of the law of God has consequences too. This booklet assesses what constitutes a breach in light of the letter and the spirit of the law of God. God is looking for a people who will be loyal to His law. "For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars...
The psalmist, directing his words to God, asks: "Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?" (Psalm 139:7). Who is this Spirit? In contending for "the faith which was once delivered unto the saints" (Jude 1:3), we find that: The apostles believed that the Holy Spirit is "the Spirit of your Father" (Matthew 10:20); and "the Spirit of Christ which was in" the prophets (1 Peter 1:11); If the Holy Spirit is not an INDIVIDUAL of the Godhead...
Christ came in the fallen human nature to save fallen humans. Satan had made a charge that it was impossible to obey God. Having tempted Adam to sin, Satan pointed to Adam's sin as proof that God's law was unjust, and could not be obeyed. In disputing Satan's charge, God responded by "sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh" (Romans 8:3). Having lost his case, Satan devised a deception that Christ came in unfallen human nature and overcame sin as God...
The "Eastern Question" as to who is the King of the North in Daniel 11:40-45 has been asked for centuries. For Seventh-day Adventists, this question was settled by one of the pioneers, Uriah Smith (1832-1903) in his book Daniel and the Revelation (1882). But today, that old interpretation has been rejected and a new interpretation devised. Could it be that, as Seventh-day Adventists, we have repeated the history of ancient Israel recorded in Jeremiah 6:16-17, by refusing to walk in the old paths of prophetic interpretation plainly laid out in Uriah Smith's 1882 book?...
Lord's Supper was instituted by our Lord Jesus at the last Passover that He kept with His disciples the night of His betrayal, just before He suffered on the cross, to take the place of the Passover. At the heart of the Lord's Supper is the truth that, "Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink His blood, ye have no life in you" (John 6:53). Until we recognise the Lord's body and blood in the daily provision He gives us - the food we eat and water we drink - we celebrate the Lord's Supper in vain...
And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples" (Luke 11:1). God desires that we pray. "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land" (2 Chronicles 7:14). But what is prayer? "Prayer is the opening of the heart to God as to a friend. Not that it is...
The conditions of things in the world shows that perilous times are right upon us. The daily papers are full of indications of a terrible conflict in our very time. Bold robberies are of frequent occurrence. Strikes are common. Thefts and murders are committed on every hand. Men possessed of demons are taking the lives of men, women, and little children. Men have become infatuated with vice, and every species of evil prevails. But multitudes have been living in transgression of God's law, and now He in mercy calls them...
The psalmist says, "I will praise Thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are Thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well" (Psalm 139:14). Herein we examine eight natural remedies man needs to keep his wonderfully made body both physically and spiritually healthy. "Pure air, sunlight, abstemiousness, rest, exercise, proper diet, the use of water, trust in Divine power - these are the true remedies" (Ellen G White, Ministry of Healing, 127)...
Health is a blessing of which few appreciate the value; yet upon it the efficiency of our mental and physical powers largely depends. We are individually the property of Christ, His purchased possession. It is required of each one of us to preserve our health and strength by the practice of temperance in what we eat. The appetites must be controlled, that through them we shall not weaken or defile God's human temple. We must not place in the stomach food which pleases the appetite, but which injures the digestive organs...
Christians should always be "Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord" (Ephesians 5:10). We must seek to put on the ornament that will never perish, that will promote the happiness of all around us in this life, and will shine with undimmed lustre in the immortal future, which ornament is the adorning of a meek and lowly spirit. God tenderly regards those who reveal the meek...
The object of health reform to us as Seventh-day Adventists is not merely for health's sake, but for making our minds capable of understanding the truth, to fit us for the coming of the Lord, and fit us for translation and immotality...
Power over sin lies in the life of total dependence on God and the secret of prayer exemplified by Jesus Christ, by claiming God's promises. "Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust" (2 Peter 1:4). Power over sin reflects the two pillars of Christian living...
Analogous to the former and the latter rain, that falls in Eastern lands at seedtime and harvest, the Hebrew prophets foretold the outpouring of the Spirit in extraordinary measure upon God's church. The outpouring of the Spirit at Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4) was the former rain. God is to pour out the Spirit to His remnant church as the latter rain. It is to this outpouring of the Spirit that the church...
"Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth" (2 Peter 1:12). But this present truth, the truth which is with us, Jesus Christ, our Seventh-day Adventist Church has corporately denied through the belief in the trinity doctrine...
There has been a growing concern about the authority of the writings of Ellen Gould White. Some, for the plainness of the writings of Ellen G White, have unfortunately sought to find faults with her writings. Some are genuinely confused, as they listen to many voices for and against the writings of Ellen G White. Some are willingly ignorant about whatever difference it makes, whether the writings of Ellen G White are of any significance to their salvation. Ellen G White was more than a prolific author. While the world is only now coming to appreciate...
The old story of the slave auctions in old New Orleans, in the United States of America, is a good illustration of the rainbow of grace and the law. Two planters were bidding for an old Negro slave who kept shouting his rebellion from the auction block. Finally, one of the planters won the bid and took the slave in his wagon back to the farm. Throughout the journey the defiant black man declared that he would not work for the new owner. By law, the planter was now the master of the new slave...
The apostle Peter had spoken boldly to a multinational gathering in Jerusalem, preaching about Jesus Christ, pointing out the sins committed against Christ, when his hearers were pricked in their heart, and they asked him, what shall we do? Peter answered them, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost" (Acts 2:38). What did Peter mean be baptized. The word "baptize" means "to immerse or dip under," from the Greek baptizein. John the Baptist...
This booklet is commentary on Revelation 13. As chapter 13 begins, John sees the dragon, then a leopard like beast coming out of the sea, and then a lamblike beast from the earth. Regarding the leopard beast, the characteristics of this power are similar to those encountered in Daniel chapter 7. The leopard beast in Revelation 13 is simply another illustration of the little horn in Daniel 7 and is the papacy. ....
God commanded: "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy" (Exodus 20:8). But this one day that God commanded we should remember, is what almost the whole world has forgotten. Has God changed His commandment? Almost the whole of the Christian world worships on Sunday instead of the seventh day Sabbath. We should carefully heed the warning of Christ when He said, "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:...
Satan is a cunning foe. As ever before, in these last days of earth's history, Satan is using all manner of false doctrines, heresies, and deceptions to mislead the minds of men. In these last days, Satan is working "with all deceivableness of unrighteousness" (2 Thessalonians 2:9, 10). But deception is Satan's life. "He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it" (John 8:44)...
The increasing economic crisis in the world is acerbating the debt problem. There are men who work hard, and obtain very little for their labour. Extravagant prices have been paid for property bought on credit. Repayment and interest with open mouth swallows up all the low income. Debts accumulate, and then come the closing and failure of banks, and then the foreclosure of mortgages. Thousands have been turned out of employment. Families lose their little all, they borrow and borrow, and then have to give up their property and come out penniless...
There are many conflicting interpretations on the seven kings and the eighth of Revelation 17:10-11. It is error to teach that the seven and the eighth heads/kings are individual popes counted from 1929. Prophetic time after 1844 would mean the angel of Rev 10:6 swore to a falsehood or we must also apply the Revelation 10 messages to this latter time; but this would disarrange the messages of Rev 14...
This booklet exposes the warfare over the Sonship of Christ that the enemy of souls is waging upon God's people. Satan was once an honoured angel in heaven, next to Christ. Satan got up a warfare over the Sonship of Christ, until he had to be thrust down to the earth. Though Satan was cast out of heaven, he has continued the same warfare upon the earth and he seeks to obscure the Sonship of Christ. Nowhere is Satan's warfare over the Sonship of Christ most intense as it is among those who are waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ...
Many Seventh-day Adventists want to be amused with sports idolatry than have their characters purified as their records are reviewed in this antitypical Day of Atonement. They forget that: "Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God" (James 4:4). You ignore at your peril Scriptures that condemn sport...
Pray before you continue reading this booklet. Ask the Lord in humbleness to guide your understanding of the present truth. Pray humbly for the Holy Spirit to open your spiritual eyes to see why every professed child of God needs to strive to be among hundred and forty-four thousand. We are now living in the closing scenes of this earth's history. As a peculiar people, separate from the world in character...
booklet warns that trinitarian Seventh-day Adventists who fail to repent from worshipping trinity gods will also accept Sunday worship at Sunday Law. It reveals that the trinity god is the sun god and those who now worship the sun god will logically worship on the sun day. It reveals that at Sunday Law, trinitarian Seventh-day Adventist "ministers will urge upon the people the necessity of keeping the first day of the week" ...
Christian churches are converging, looking the same, and are all claiming to belong to Christ. But do they really all belong to Christ? Does the fact that they call themselves Christian make them God's true church? Does the Bible identify God's true end-time church? Does it matter which church one belongs to? Bible prophecy reveals that many churches in the last days will claim the name of Christ, but will seek their own concept of truth and their own righteousness. "And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man...
For a Christian, the argument for paying tithe to the Lord is very simple: "And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise" (Galatians 3:29). Abraham gave tithes to Melchizedek; the Melchizedek priesthood is a priesthood by which righteousness and peace come; it is the priesthood by which we are saved. Abraham gave tithes to Melchizedek, because Melchizedek was the representative of the Most High God, and the tithe is the Lord's. If we are Christ's then we are children of Abraham; and therefore...
Ancient Israel served the LORD in the days of Joshua and of the Elders, after Joshua and the Elders died, there arose a new generation that knew not the LORD, nor the works the LORD had done for Israel, and they led Israel into worshipping Baalim (Judges 2:7-11). Could it be that the history of ancient Israel is long repeated? Lest we repeat history to worship modern Baalim, before probation closes, would God not have a people who will proclaim: "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD" (Deuteronomy 6:4)...
This appeals to fellow Adventists to repent of worshipping trinity gods. Ezekiel chapters eight and nine explained in the booklet "Greater Abominations" show the destruction soon to fall upon those who are not sealed. All who sigh and cry for the abominations in the church must have the right conception of God and His Son as revealed in the Bible. No eternal life in the trinity, for eternal life is only in the true God and His Son: "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent" (John 17:3)...
The global pestilence brings to view how all nations have been deceived by pharmakeia. The overwhelming force of this deception is not in the public clamour for the so-called preventive vaccine, but in the acceptance of drugs/vaccines by God’s professed people – Seventh-day Adventists. "If Seventh-day Adventists practiced what they profess to believe, if they were sincere health reformers, they would indeed be a spectacle to the world, to angels, and to men" – Ellen G White {RH May 27, 1902, Art. A, par. 1}. Health reform, ...
Ready or not, Jesus Christ is coming! When He comes, there will be two classes, the careful and the careless. The former watch and pray, while the latter dance and play. At this time above all others it behooves every soul to heed the Saviour's admonition: "Watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is" (Mark 13:33). John records the words of our Lord, "If therefore...
The apostle John records the revelation of Jesus Christ to the seven churches in Asia, which churches are symbolic of the church in different periods of the Christian era. In one of these churches, Pergamos, there was found the doctrine of the Nicolaitans (Revelation 2:15). The doctrine of the Nicolaitans is a devilish doctrine, which separates salvation from obedience. Like the Pergamos church, many of today's churches...
The tabernacle of the Lord is beautiful! But a large class of Seventh-day Adventists are, by their lifestyles, choosing not to abide in God's tabernacle. "For what is a man profitted, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" (Matthew 16:26). Why forfeit eternity for vanity of this world? In the book, Early Writings (pp. 14-20), a beautiful picture...
At the root of Jesus' redemptive work since the fall of man, is to restore us to a state of sinlessness that Adam had before the fall. "That He might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish" (Ephesians 5:27). A careful reading of Ephesians 5:27 reveals that Christ...
The question of whether women should serve in leadership roles of elders or pastors is an issue in many Christian churches even in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The women equality crisis can be traced from rebellion of Satan in heaven before the earth was created to our acceptance of the error of the trinity doctrine that distorts the divine order. The divine order is this: God is the head of Christ, Christ the head of every man...
